Anoectochilus setaceus

Anoectochilus setaceus, commonly known as the Jewel Orchid, is a captivating terrestrial orchid species belonging to the family Orchidaceae. Native to the tropical and subtropical regions of South and Southeast Asia — including India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, and Indonesia — this remarkable plant thrives in the cool, humid understories of dense forests, typically growing on moist, leaf-littered forest floors at elevations ranging from 300 to 1,500 metres above sea level.

Unlike the majority of orchids celebrated for their showy blooms, Anoectochilus setaceus draws primary admiration for its extraordinary foliage. The leaves display a deep, velvety green adorned with an intricate network of shimmering golden or reddish veins that catch the light with an almost metallic brilliance — an appearance so striking it has earned the plant its popular name. Each leaf carries an ovate to elliptical shape, with a surface texture that appears almost iridescent under diffused forest light, making it one of the most visually arresting ground-cover plants in the orchid world.
