Description

Bucephalandra Catherine 49 is a rare and elegant aquatic plant that brings rich color and fine texture to any freshwater aquarium. Its long, narrow leaves feature distinctive ruffled edges and a slightly glossy surface, giving it a refined appearance that stands out in both nano tanks and larger aquascapes. Under higher light conditions, the foliage reveals striking hints of red and purple, adding a sophisticated depth of color to any planted layout.
This plant belongs to the Bucephalandra genus, a diverse group of rheophytic epiphytes native to the tropical rainforests of Borneo. Like all Bucephalandra varieties, Catherine 49 anchors itself to hard surfaces such as rocks and driftwood rather than rooting in the substrate. This growth habit makes it a highly versatile plant for aquascape design, fitting naturally into crevices, along hardscape edges, and across open rock faces.
Care is straightforward and suitable for beginners. Catherine 49 thrives in low to moderate lighting and tolerates a wide range of water parameters without issue. It grows well without CO₂ injection, though adding CO₂ alongside a balanced fertilizer routine encourages faster, denser growth and intensifies its red and purple tones. Good water flow keeps the leaves healthy and supports steady development over time.
