Description

Crocodile Land 57

Bucephalandra Crocodile Land 57 is a rare aquatic plant that stands out in any freshwater aquarium. Its dark, textured leaves mimic the rugged pattern of crocodile skin, giving it a bold and distinctive character that few other aquatic plants can match. A subtle metallic sheen across the leaf surface adds an extra layer of visual depth, especially under aquarium LED lighting.

This plant belongs to the Bucephalandra genus, a group of rheophytic plants native to the island of Borneo. Like other members of its family, it grows as an epiphyte, meaning it attaches itself to hard surfaces such as rocks and driftwood rather than rooting in the substrate. This makes it incredibly versatile when it comes to aquascape design.

One of the biggest appeals of this variety is its ease of care. It thrives in low to moderate lighting conditions and does not require COâ‚‚ injection to grow healthy. However, adding COâ‚‚ and nutrients can enhance its coloration and encourage faster growth. Its slow, compact growth habit means it stays neat with minimal trimming, making it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced aquascapers.

To plant it, simply attach the rhizome to a piece of driftwood or rock using fishing line, thread, or aquarium-safe glue. Avoid burying the rhizome in the substrate, as this can cause it to rot. Propagation is straightforward — just cut the rhizome and attach the new section to another surface.

Crocodile Land 57 works beautifully as a foreground or midground plant in nano tanks and larger aquascapes alike. It also provides a natural hiding spot for dwarf shrimp and small fish, adding both beauty and function to the tank. For aquascapers who want strong texture and character in their layout, this plant delivers.
