Homalomena is a genus of flowering plants within the family Araceae. Homalomena are primarily found in southern Asia and the southwestern Pacific, but there are a few species that are known to be indigenous to Latin America. Many Homalomena have a strong smell of anise. The plants of this genus are clump-forming evergreen perennials with mainly heart-shaped or arrow headed shaped leaves. The flowers are tiny and without petals, enclosed in a usually greenish spathe hidden by the leaves. (Source: Wikipedia)

Homalomena sp.Velvet

Homalomena sp. Velvet
Few houseplants stop people in their tracks the way Homalomena sp. Velvet does. Native to the humid lowland forests of Borneo, this rare aroid is prized for its extraordinary foliage — deep, heart-shaped leaves that appear to be cut from dark velvet, shifting between rich olive-green and near-black depending on the light. Run a finger across the surface and you’ll feel the plush, matte texture that gives this plant its name.

Unlike many aroids, Homalomena sp. Velvet is remarkably forgiving once established. It thrives in medium to bright indirect light but tolerates shadier conditions better than most collectors expect — making it an ideal statement piece for interior shelving or a dim corner that needs a bold focal point. Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged, and provide warmth above 18 °C year-round. High humidity of 60% or more will bring out the deepest colour and the most luxuriant leaf sheen.
