Description

Lamandau Blue 53

Bucephalandra Lamandau Blue 53 is a rare aquatic plant that brings a striking splash of cool-toned color to any freshwater aquarium. Known for its deep blue and green iridescent leaves, this variety captivates aquascapers with its jewel-like shimmer under aquarium LED lighting.

This plant belongs to the Bucephalandra genus, a group of rheophytic plants native to the island of Borneo. Like other members of its family, it grows as an epiphyte, anchoring itself to hard surfaces such as rocks and driftwood rather than rooting in the substrate. This growth habit gives aquascapers tremendous flexibility when designing their layouts.

One of the biggest appeals of this variety is its ease of care. It thrives in low to moderate lighting conditions and does not require CO₂ injection to grow well. However, adding CO₂ alongside a consistent fertilizer routine intensifies its blue and green hues, making the leaves even more vivid and eye-catching. Its naturally slow and compact growth keeps the plant tidy without frequent trimming, making it a great choice for both beginners and experienced aquascapers.

To plant it, simply attach the rhizome to a piece of driftwood or rock using fishing line, thread, or aquarium-safe glue. Never bury the rhizome in the substrate, as this causes it to rot. Propagation is simple — cut the rhizome into sections and attach each piece to a new surface.

Lamandau Blue 53 works beautifully as a foreground or midground plant in nano tanks and larger aquascapes alike. Its cool blue-green tones pair naturally with warm-colored hardscape materials like stone and wood, creating a balanced and visually striking contrast. It also provides excellent shelter for dwarf shrimp and small fish. For aquascapers chasing rare color and fine detail, this plant is a standout addition to any tank.
