Description
Rotala macrandra
Rotala macrandra is one of the most visually striking aquatic stem plants used in aquascaping. The plant features soft, oval-shaped leaves arranged opposite each other along slender stems. Under optimal conditions, the leaves develop intense shades of red, pink, or crimson, creating a dramatic visual impact inside aquariums. The coloration largely depends on environmental factors such as lighting intensity, nutrient availability, and carbon dioxide levels. In lower light conditions, the plant may display greener tones, while strong lighting encourages deeper red pigmentation.
Rotala macrandra is considered a moderately demanding plant compared to other stem plants used in aquascaping. It typically requires bright lighting, stable water parameters, and consistent nutrient supplementation to thrive. Carbon dioxide injection is strongly recommended to maintain healthy growth and vibrant coloration. A nutrient-rich substrate and regular dosing of micronutrients, particularly iron, can further enhance leaf color and plant vitality.
